The Legacy of British Involvement in Afghanistan

October 1, 2016

Although the National Army Museum is currently closed for redevelopment (reopening Spring 2017), the events continue! A forthcoming talk given by photo-journalist Kate Holt will share her experiences working alongside the British Army in Afghanistan and documenting the impact of the war on the civilian population.

The talk will be hosted by the Army & Navy Club, 36-39 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5JN  on Thursday 13th October 2016 at 7pm.

Kate photographed the work of a UK military counter-IED team in the summer of 2010 in Afghanistan and also spent three years documenting the impact of the war on the civilian population, working in civilian hospitals in both Kandahar and Helmand.

Kate has recently returned to Afghanistan to see how increasing violence is impacting on the civilian population and if there is any legacy left behind by 15 years of UK military occupation. During her talk, Kate will show a number of her own images and two audio testimonies from people who experienced Afghanistan.

Kate Holt is a freelance photo-journalist and regular Guardian contributor. She has been nominated twice for the Amnesty Award for Humanitarian Reporting.
